Hunter
Item Number: Recurve-hun1
Our bows are made in Hungary by Kassai Lajos.A master archer and horseman, Mr. Kassai has designed bows based upon years of painstaking research into the Scythian, Hun, Avar, Magyar, and Mongol historic styles. Highly related are the Khazar, Russian, Seljuk Turk, and Korean bows. Mr. Kassai references archeological digs in his country and elsewhere, historic texts, paintings, illuminations, and Magyar verbal histories before he reproduces a bow style. His search for historical documentation is ongoing. New bow designs and improvements on current bow styles are made with an eye toward historical accuracy achieved via modern technologies. Kassai's bows are made with an eye toward historical accuracy achieved via modern technologies. As more fully described below, they are constructed either of Ashwood and Fiberglass or "Action Wood" (a hi-tech laminate with a base of maple). The shortest Avar bow is hard to distinguish from the Magyar Sport just by looking. Their dimensions are unstrung at 56" and strung at 50". String is 48" with 4" loops. This is built to be a "brush bow" (easier to push through brush while hunting). It has no finger pinch. Finger pinch is what a very short recurve or flat bow do to the draw fingers. The angle of the string at the arrow nock is very tight hence they pinch the fingers. These bows do not as the syhas pivot back toward the archer leaving the angle at the arrow/drawing fingers much wider. I have a long article from "National Bowhunter Magazine" analyzing this bow in great detail. This model is truly superior for a draw length of 28 inches or less. It starts to stack at just over 28 inches but overdraws nicely up to 30 inches. Using less technical terms I am telling you the bow is really good for an archer 5'10" tall or shorter. It will serve an archer well who is up to 6'1" if they have reasons for wanting a compact bow. Available in weights from 30# to 70#.

Greyhound (Tall Magyar) The owners bow of choice

Kassai's bows are made with an eye toward historical accuracy achieved via modern technologies. As more fully described below, they are constructed either of Ashwood and Fiberglass or "Action Wood" (a hi-tech laminate with a base of maple). This design is the result of a desire to have a bow that delivered the advantages of a longer bow , in draw weights higher than the Hun design sustains. Strung with its 55" string, it is 58" tall. Unstrung, it is 61". This rugged design is made with the same extra effort and materials that the Hun uses. Bright nylon cord on the outside, long ears, and long belly. It gives a very efficient cast with a great smoothness, and does not start to stack until 38". I would recommend this bow to the archer who can afford the premium quality bow that can take a bit of rough handling. This extra sturdiness has a small price, in that it is not quite as efficient as the Hun. I expected to tell you this was for the tall person, which it was designed for, but the first person to buy one is a very experienced archer of 5'5". He said it was too smooth to pass up. Weights are from 34# to 66#.This is the bow that the owner shoots.

Vazul (Bear in Hungarian)
Item Number: Recurve-vaz
This is the latest close variation on the Avar family. It is intended for the target shooter and hunter who desire a longer bow with the option of more power. To offer this higher poundage the aerodynamic shape of the Magyar Sport and Hunter syhas have been replaced with comparatively massive and blunt shaped syhas. The bow weights 1pound 15 ounces. The string is 55 and 1/8 inches. It is 61 inches long unstrung and 58 inches strung. Available in draw weights from 25# to 110#.

The Pony
Item Number: Recurve-py
Intended as a children's bow this flat bow draws nicely all the way to 28 inches. It is built as one solid piece of fiberglass from tip to tip. This is a different and less costly construction method than the horsebows with their syhas and complex curves. The belly of the Pony is wrapped in leather, giving it a very nice look. The handle is also leather and built up to an arrow rest. The Pony comes in three weights: • Green 23# at 26 inches / 25# at 28 inches • Red 30# at 26 inches / 35# at 28 inches • Black 38# at 26 inches / 45# at 28 inches When strung it is 53 inches long, unstrung 56 inches.

The Panther and the Mongol - C
Item Number: Recurve-panther  or Moc-mongol-c
These are the bows that come closest to the performance of the ancient horsebows. Kassai has been trying for years to design a bow of modern materials with this much d-flex. Once strung these bows are under more tension than most bows. Example: A Mongol-C that measures 46# at 30 inches measures 32# at 20 inches and 42# at 28 inches, and 49# at 32 inches. The extra tension through the power stroke delivers more velocity to your arrows. One of my dealers had not shot a bow for a decade as his damaged wrist would not allow him to draw more than 35# . He is shooting again as the Panther delivers the arrow speed he could not get from any other bow. Their disadvantage is they are a challenge to string . The Panther weighs 2 lbs., uses a 55.125 inch string and is 57 inches strung, 48 inches unstrung. The belly is 1.75 inches wide,.The Mongol-C weights 2lbs 3oz., and uses a 56 inch string, When strung it is 58 inches long, unstrung 49 inches, and the belly is 2.25 inches wide . Both are made in draw weights of 25# to 60# at 30 inches. Top is a Panther unstrung, bottom is a Mongol -C strung. Both are commonly refered to as C bows.

Raven The Raven In 2002 Kassai designed the Raven as a general purpose bow. It is a refinement of the general purpose bow that started his business, the Magyar Sport. The Magyar Sport has been Kassai’s and my best selling bow for several years, but the Raven’s performance is such an improvement that I no longer stock the Magyar Sport. The Raven’s syhas are longer and the belly shorter and broader. The tips of the bow come to a rugged point. Unstrung 57.5 inches long, strung 54 inches tall. It takes a 50.3 inch string (same as the Magyar Sport). The syhas are 14 inches long, the belly 34 inches long and 1.9 inches wide. Available from 25# to 60#.
